Wedding Photography
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What should I look out for when I am looking at a photographer's samples?
A: Many photographers show potential clients what I refer to as their "greatest hits album" containing a collection of highlights from a dozen different weddings. If a photographer assembles and shows the best photos from several weddings in one album, you are not seeing an accurate representation of the results you might expect from your wedding. Even a poor, or inexperienced photographer can get lucky and shoot one nice photo every now and then. To view my albums, click here.
Q: Why are your prices so much more affordable than everyone else?
A: I believe that everyone deserves to have beautiful photos from their wedding day, and it shouldn't cost you thousands of dollars. When I got married, we couldn't afford a professional photographer, and have only snapshots taken by friends and family members. At that time I made a commitment to myself that I would always offer beautiful photography at an affordable rate.
Q: Who will be my actual photographer?
A: Me! I don't have any other photographers working for my studio. All of the photos in my portfolio were taken by me, and all albums were designed by me.
Q: What should we wear for our engagement session?
A: Anything! I recommend you wear whatever matches your personality. If you want your photos to be fun and vibrant, think about wearing some jeans and fun colors that will pop out of the picture. If you want more of the attention to be on your faces, chose colors that are more calm blend well together.
The most important thing is that you feel comfortable in what you're wearing. Whether it's Jeans or a dress and heals.
Q: Where is a good location for our engagement or bridal session?
A: The options are unlimited! Northern Utah has so much to chose from. Many couples choose photos taken in nature, such as a flowery garden, a snowy river bank, among orange and red falling leaves, on a white sandy beach, or a golden hay field.
Others prefer the more urban look of beautiful architecture with dramatic lines, old rustic barns and buildings, or train tracks and tunnels.
Some couples prefer a sentimental location. Two of the most fun engagement sessions were taken at the laundry mat where the couple first met, and the movie theater where they had their first date.
Q: How much time should we plan for our engagement or bridal session?
A: Time can vary from location to location, but most sessions take around one hour. More time will need to be allotted if you are planning on more than one location, or clothing changes.
Q: How soon should I have my engagement pictures done?
A: Hopefully at least 8 weeks prior to the wedding if the photo is on the invite (not just an insert). But the sooner the better.
Q: How soon should I have my bridals done?
A: If you want to display them at your wedding, then you need to plan on having a dress ready (that's always what holds up the pictures) at least 4 weeks beforehand. But again, the sooner the better.
Q: How much time will you spend at my wedding?
A: I will be there from the time you are getting ready until after the cake is cut, and the bouquet is tossed. I want to provide you photographs of your entire day.
Q: How much time does it take to get the photos after the wedding?
A: Your photos will be on-line and ready to view and order within two weeks of your wedding. The photos will then be mailed to me and ready to deliver within one week of time of order. (The design process of the album generally takes a little longer.)
Q: Do you do extensive retouching?
A: Absolutely! I want you to look perfect in your photos. EVERY final photo is 100% retouched.
Q: What is a Negative CD?
A: It is a CD containing all final images from your wedding day. Take your CD to any photo lab and get photos printed. The images are high-resolution, meaning that you can print large photos without any distortion or fuzziness.
Q: Can I make copies of the Negative CDs?
A: Yes, in fact we encourage you to make lots of copies and give them to relatives. That way the photos can't get lost in a fire, flood, etc.!
Q: Who chooses the pictures that go in the album?
A: You do! After looking at all the proof images on-line, you decide what goes in the album. The album will then be designed and submitted to you on-line for a final review.
Q: What is a Print Credit?
A: All of our packages come with a Print Credit. You can use the Print Credit to purchase prints, albums, canvas's, invitations, etc. You can purchase anything that we offer, with the exception of the Negative CD.
Q: Can we upgrade to a different package later?
A: Yes. You can upgrade your package at anytime for a 10% fee.
Q: How much is the deposit and when is it due?
A: The deposit is 50% of your package price. It reserves your wedding day, until the deposit is received, someone else could reserve your day. The other 50% is due 4 weeks prior to your wedding day.
Q: Is the deposit refundable?
A: We don't refund the money, but you maintain that money as a 1 year credit with A Thousand Words Photography, and it can be used for any wedding or portrait photography. With most studios you lose the deposit if your plans change, with us you have simply prepaid on a family portrait package!
Q: What payment methods are accepted?
A: Cash, check, credit, debit, or PayPal.
